Hi! My name is Alec Phillips. I have lived in the Birmingham area all of my life. A graduate of Gardendale High School, I obtained a Bachelor of Science in Family Studies from Samford University. Following graduation, I married my high school sweetheart, Carson, and our family continued to grow by four legs… on several occasions. We have four dogs, Paisley, Kinley, Bentley and Scotty. Recently our family grew again; our son, Mack, was born in September 2016, and he is my pride and joy.
After working in mental health and the non-profit arena for several years, my career path changed and I became a police officer. I have a passion for helping people, which was the basis of my past careers. Due to an unfortunate health diagnosis, I was no longer able to continue this line of work.
Several years ago, my wife and I decided to purchase a professional camera to document our lives together, but mostly to photograph our four dogs and future child. As I began to learn how to use it, I developed a passion for it and began posting the photos on an Instagram page for our dogs, @phillipsfurchildren. I began to invest more and more into this hobby, which continued to grow as we discovered we were pregnant with our son and I wanted to prepare for taking photos of him. I studied the art even more in depth for months in preparation for his birth, so I could have the quality of photos that I wanted to remember the amazing experience. The joy of creating photos that made me, my wife, and others happy motivated me to continue working on developing my skill and share it with others.
My philosophy in photography is this: to provide good people with professional, fun, unique, and personally catered photos at a reasonable price. My goal is to work with you to have fun capturing moments that you will cherish forever, by making photos that embrace your uniqueness, even if they do not necessarily fit the mold of what is "in" at the moment. I pride myself on being innovative and laid back, providing excellent customer service, and working to meet my customers goals (instead of pushing a cookie cutter mold). My areas of expertise include family photos, portraits, natural photos in action (ex: sporting events), pets, and scenery. I'm open and looking forward to learning new areas as well.
Photography truly is something I enjoy doing. However, when I am not taking photos, I enjoy playing with my son, hiking, watching college football, shooting firearms, and playing with our dogs.
I would love the opportunity to collaborate together!
But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. - 2 Corinthians 12:9
